Activities create memories and regardless of whether you are travelling as a family, a couple, a group of friends or by yourself, we want you to have a unique holiday in Myrkdalen. Therefore, we offer a vast variety of activities all year round.
In summer the area offers a variety of hiking trails, ranging from easy trails to more demanding multiday trips. Exciting activities such as high ropes course, rafting, horseback riding, wind tunnel and paragliding are close by. Myrkdalen is located a short drive from the Sogne Fjord, so it`s possible to combine adventures in the mountains and fjords in the same day.
Vikafjellet and Vik
The Sogne Fjord and the charming village Vik is only a 40 minute drive from Myrkdalen Mountain Resort. On the way to the fjord you drive across the stunning Vikafjellet mountain plateau, where you often find snow in the middle of summer. Just before you arrive in Vik, you can visit Hopperstad stave church or Hove church, one of the oldest stone churches in Norway. In the town centre you can for a walk or relax on their nice beach by the fjord. If you dare – try the Norwegian delicatessen “gamalost” at the local cheese bar. Continue your journey by car and ferry to the idyllic village of Balestrand if you want a longer journey.
Winter holiday program
In the holidays we have a varied program for all ages.
Ski touring and cross country skiing
Myrkdalen has great terrain for cross country skiing and ski touring. Årmostlia, which is situated across the road from the ski resort contains many kilometres of groomed tracks. This is a perfect location to excersise or bring your kids skiing. A 5 km loop is illuminated, so you can go skiing even after it`s dark.
The mountain plateau at Vikafjellet has many options for cross country skiing, A common starting point is at the parking lot by the county border between Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. Please note that there are no groomed tracks in this area – here you make your own tracks in the pristine mountain terrain.
Off-piste and backcountry skiing
There are many beautiful mountains around Myrkdalen and often you can start right from your doorstep. The most accessible mountain is Finnbunuten (1358 m) – as you can gain height by taking the Kari Traa lift up and walk to the top. On the other side of the valley is Bjørndalskamben (1402 m) – the highest mountain in Myrkdalen with amazing views.
If you walk a little from the ski lifts, you can find untouched snow several days after last snowfall. Just remember: While off-piste skiing you are responsible for yourself and your friends. Be especially careful on days when the avalanche danger is moderate and high. There is a training area for avalanche transceivers at the ski resort, feel free to use it! And do not hesitate to contact the ski patrol if there is an avalanche situation.
