Next to Myrkdalen Hotel, you'll find purpose built mountain bike tracks for children and beginners, and an 850 square metre pumptrack. You can use our bike park free of charge, or you can join mountain bike courses for children and adults from the middle of June.

Three activities you don't want to miss out on in Myrkdalen; mountain biking, hiking and fjord adventures

If you want to experience biking in high mountain terrain, we recommend our guided e-bike tours on the gravel roads at Vikafjellet Mountain Plateau. Myrkdalen Sport & Rental has a good selection of mountain bikes and e-bikes for rent.

Biking the Rallarvegen is a must if you are in this region. This historical gravel road, which was built by the navvies from 1902 - 1904 in connection with the construction of the Bergen Railway, goes from stunning high mountain terrain at Haugastøl to luxuriant landscape in Flåm. Sleep and eat well at Fretheim Hotel, before new biking adventures starts in Myrkdalen, only one hour away.

2. Start hiking from the top of the skylift

The skylift right next to Myrkdalen Hotel is open in the summer months July and August. In five minutes the skylift brings you to 850 metres above sea level. For children and families we recommend taking part in our fun trail quiz on the track back to Myrkdalen Hotel.

If you want a more demanding hike, you can walk to Finnbunuten Mountain (1358 metres above sea level), which on clear days offer great views of famous glaciers such as Hardangerjøkulen, Jostedalsbreen and Folgefonna. Another option is to walk to the idyllic mountain farms Mørkvesstølen, along the track you can take a refreshing swim in the river.

3. Bike & Hike by the Nærøyfjord

Are you looking for a spectacular experience off the beaten track in a World Heritage Site? Our Bike & Hike product combine fjordcruise, e-biking from the fjord and hiking to Breiskrednosi mountain, which offers an airy view of the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord.

During your summer holiday in Myrkdalen you get to experience the best of Norwegian nature

If you want a less demanding Hike & Bike experience, we recommend the tour to the stunning Kvassdalen valley and the mountain farms at Vetle Grungen. The tours can be booked every day from July 1st.

In this area you have several options, but two of the most visited mountains is probably Bakkanosi and Breiskrednosi - both of them offers an airy view of the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord.

Enjoy breathtaking views on a fjord cruise, take Scandinavia's longest zipline from the top of the world famous Flåm Railway, or visit Stegastein Viewpoint - which extends 30 metres out from the mountainside and 650 metres over the Aurlandsfjord!

6. Unique accommodation in Tråfjosen

Myrkdalen Mountain Resort also offers accommodation in untraditional units. Now you have a unique opportunity to sleep in an old barn, surrounded by history and beautiful nature.

In the forest below the express lift Storhaugekspressen, you'll find Tråfjosen, a barn where the cows in summer used to be gathered and milked in the olden days. The barn has been empty for over 40 years, but now it will be used again - as accommodation for people.

Inside the stalls are still intact, with beautiful slabs of slate to separate one from the other. In the south end we have installed a module, where one to four people can sleep.
