10 things you can do without skis in Myrkdalen
Myrkdalen is well known for being a skiers paradise, but it is so much more! Here are 10 things you can do in Myrkdalen when your legs need a rest from the slopes.
1.Guided snowshoe hike to the wilderness camp
Join us on an idyllic snowshoe trip through the snow-covered landscape in Myrkdalen. We put on our snowshoes at Myrkdalsstovo and walk into the lavvu at the wilderness camp in Årmotslia. Here, we gather around the bonfire in the lavvu and enjoy warm drinks, snacks, and storytelling about Norwegian culture and traditions before we return to Myrkdalen.
2. Sledding
Great fun for the entire family! Join us for an exiting trip with a snow racer from the top of the chair lift Myrkdalsekspressen! We will take the last lift to the top and enjoy the empty slopes down to Myrkdalen Hotel. Hot drinks will be served half way.
3. Dog sledding
Enjoy the stunning winter landscape on a dog sledding tour! This is a wonderful activity, which suits everyone!
During the holiday weeks Hardanger Husky will come to Myrkdalen and offer dog sledding tours in a 4 km long slope next to Myrkdalen Camping. Here you and your family can control your own dog sled in the stunning winter terrain next to Myrkdalsvatnet lake.
4. Enjoy the best coffee in Kamben Café and Bar
You can get the best coffee in the area at Kamben Café and Bar. Here you can also enjoy simple dishes, pastries, and a wide selection of beers from local breweries. We also show different sports broadcasts on the TV screens.
5. Sleigh rides
Enjoy a 20 minute sleigh ride in the beautiful winter landscape in Myrkdalen. You will be picked up outside Myrkdalen Hotel and the ride takes approxitmately 20 minutes.
6. Fondue - more than just a meal
Another way to cap off a perfect ski day, is to have a unique fondue meal at Nuten Fondue in Myrkdalen Hotel. It is a dining experience that goes beyond just food, it is a social and enjoyable event to share with friends and family.
7. Flåmsbana
Join the worlds most beautiful railway journey from Flåm to Myrdal return. The route goes from the fjord to 860 metres above sea level. The Flåm Railway offers a great variety: From a stunning fjord landscape down at sea level to wild mountains with snow-capped peaks. Through lush pastures and historical traditions dating back to pagan times. It takes approximately two hours from Flåm - Myrdal return.
8. Afternoon Tea at Myrkdalen Hotel
Treat yourself to an exclusive afternoon with Afternoon Tea and good friends.
This British tradition, originating from the 19th century, is brought to Myrkdalen where our skilled chefs dish up home-made scones, sandwiches, delicious sweets and lots of tea. If you want to treat yourself to something extra, champagne is of course on the keel. There will be clinking in old porcelain while one can dream away from the corona and enjoy a little luxury every day
9. Grilling and campfire coziness in a lean-to
On weekends and every day during the holidays throughout the winter season, we light up the fireplace in the lean-tos. It's a cozy spot to gather and grill sausages and marshmallows. . You will find three of these Norwegian gapahuk in the area - at the Square, by the forest slopes near the children's area, and up the hill, just above the Myrkdalsekspressen ski lift.
10. BaseCamp
Saturday and Sunday in the winter season and every day in the holiday weeks there will be a BaseCamp with fun outdoor activities for families.
