Visit Myrkdalen for unforgettable, family-friendly fjord and mountain adventures. Myrkdalen is perfect for those seeking an active holiday for the whole family, with mountain hikes, biking, fishing, and fjord experiences.
The ideal base for an active holiday
Myrkdalen is located in Voss, the small village known as the adventure capital of Norway. Staying in Myrkdalen means that you are conveniently close to a variety of outdoor activities that the whole family can enjoy. You have the mountains and hills literally at your doorstep, with trails and gravel roads ready for you to explore.
A stone's throw away from Myrkdalen Hotel is the Myrkdalsekspressen, the chairlift that transports the whole family up to the mountains within 5 minutes.
From the top (860 MASL) you can walk down to Fjellstova Vetlebotn café or take another short and popular hike to the idyllic, old farm called Mørkvesstølen. On hot summer days you can dip your toes in the streams along the trail. If you want to hike farther, you can continue from the farm towards Svortetjødn, a small, secluded tarn where a refreshing swim awaits.

Take the hiking trail quiz
Trail quiz is fun and keeps the kids entertained while hiking. Pick up quiz map and reply form at Myrkdalen Hotel before you go and find the questions we’ve put up between Vetlebotn and Helgatun. A small prize for the kids awaits after answering all the questions.
Take a small break and relax at Fjellstova Vetlebotn café. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, ice cream, baked goods, or traditional Norwegian dishes before continuing down the fun trail quiz back to Myrkdalen Hotel.

Right outside Myrkdalen Hotel we have an 850 square meter pump track, as well as a skills course with elements for different levels. It suits beginners and children but some of the elements can also challenge the more experienced bikers.
Kids who like biking will enjoy a holiday in Myrkdalen.
For even more fun bouncing, you can try our jump lines, right by the ski bridge over RV13 towards Årmotslia. They have varying difficulty levels to satisfy everyone.
Disc golf is one of the world's fastest growing sports and has lately become very popular in Norway as well. During summer in Myrkdalen you can find a family-friendly 5-hole course right by the chairlift. The goal of the game is to hit the basket with your disc, with the lowest number of total throws.
The course is free to use. If you don't have your own discs you can rent at Myrkdalen Hotel.
Combine hiking and fishing
Small fishing lakes, one after the other in Sendedalen.
The wild mountain terrain at Vikafjellet, only 15 minutes’ drive away from Myrkdalen, has a variety of different trails, surrounded by lush green landscape. The trail along the four mountain tarns in Sendedalen valley is perfect for families with children. Hike as far as you want, take a swim in one of the tarns or cast your fishing rod. Experience biking on Rallarvegen
From mountain to fjord on Rallarvegen.
Those of you with older children should definitely have biking on Rallarvegen on your bucketlist. This is a historical, construction route built along the Bergen railway in 1904. Now it is a popular and scenic recreation trail for cyclists, a daytrip that stretches from the high mountain terrain in Finse and down to the fjord landscape in the charming village of Flåm.
Hike to Prest mountain top with fjord view all the way
The hike up to Prest begins at the scenic route, Aurlandsfjellet, approximately 1 hour drive from Myrkdalen. It’s a short and easy hike for the whole family, with fantastic view, already after a few hundred meters.
The trail is clearly marked all the way up to the viewpoint (1363 MASL), about 2,5 km from the starting point.
You are rewarded with a stunning, panoramic view of the Aurlandsfjord that stretches from south towards Flåm to north where it meets the Nærøyfjord.
This hike is suitable for children. Walk as far as their motivation allow and enjoy the view already after a few hundred meters.
